Oval cut
The oval cut for diamond wedding and engagement rings
The oval cut is the perfect choice if you are looking for a diamond with both an exotic form, but also the glamour of a brilliant. Oval diamonds can have a varying dramatic effect, depending on the ratio/proportions. They belong to the family of the brilliant cuts.
The idea behind this cut was to play with the form while keeping the brilliance of the traditional cut. The classic round brilliant is completely symmetrical, while the oval cut has a length-width-ratio of 1.5:1.
The diamond cutter must observe this ratio closely to obtain a really oval stone. An unprofessional work will leave the diamond with a lopsided look that will negatively influence the brilliance and shine of the diamond: The light cannot be properly reflected, but will leak out on the sides and bottom.
